Inglis Graduates Dominate Horse of the Year Awards

Media Release - Friday October 5

Inglis graduates again dominated last night's Australian Horse of the Year Awards ceremony in Melbourne.

Estijaab wins the Golden SlipperGolden Slipper-winner Estijaab (pictured) – a $1.7m Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase – was named Champion 2YO following a devasting juvenile season, which netted three wins and a second from four starts.

Fellow Easter graduate Trapeze Artist won the Champion 3YO Colt crown thanks to Group 1 wins in the stallion-making Golden Rose, and two against the older horses in the TJ Smith Stakes and the All Aged Stakes.

And inaugural The Everest winner Redzel – a $45,000 Australian Broodmare & Weanling Sale purchase – was crowned Champion Sprinter.

In the 2017/18 racing season, Redzel raced eight times for five wins and two seconds.

Inglis graduates won most of Australia's key 2YO and 3YO races in 2017/18 including the Blue Diamond Stakes (Written By), Golden Slipper (Estijaab), Golden Rose (Trapeze Artist) and Coolmore Stud Stakes (Merchant Navy).

Inglis was also the only auction house to sell a Group 1-winning 2YO in Ausralia in 2018.

Inglis' General Manager of Bloodstock Jonathan D'Arcy was thrilled for the connections of the horses to be recognised.

"Our clients who breed and buy these horses deserve all the credit for these successful results,'' D'Arcy said.

"The Australian racing industry is in such a fantastic position with record prizemoney levels, participation at an all-time high and races like The Everest capturing the imagination and attention of a global audience.

"These horses are great examples of what all racing enthusiasts strive for in our sport so to all the breeders, vendors, buyers, trainers and owners involved, congratulations from everybody at Inglis.''

The next chance to purchase a horse is at the Inglis Ready2Race Sale at Riverside Stables on Monday October 15 – two days after The Everest.

There is a final small breeze up session of approximately 12 horses at Warwick Farm at 9.30am next Friday, October 12, before a full catalogue parade.

The hour-long parade will be accompanied by a champagne brunch from 10am.
