Entered
for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas and Group I VRC Oaks, progressive Sebring
filly Aphitrite produced a fast finishing win at Flemington on Wednesday beating
colts and geldings.
The Darren Weir trained filly scored an impressive maiden win at Sale on September
9 at her first run back from a spell following an initial campaign that
produced two seconds and a fourth.
A stronger filly this time around, she settled back in the field and produced a
good turn of foot to charge home and win the Benchmark 64 event over 1420
metres by a long neck as favourite with Craig Williams in the saddle.
"She's been well managed and that was a dominant win down at Sale," Williams
said.
"This is another good stepping stone for her to win here against the colts."
A $50,000 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale purchase from the Goldin Farms draft
for Flying Start Syndicate/Darren Weir Racing, Amphitrite is the third winner
from three to race from Ocean Dream, a Redoute's Choice half-sister to Group I
winner Marble Halls. The family has also produced Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes
winner Sleek Chassis.
Amphitrite was bred by Goldin Farms and her dam Ocean Dream has been to their
stallion Akeed Mofeed (GB) in subsequent seasons.
Sebring has made a fast start to the season with three stakes-winners already
on the board in Miss Admiration, Violate and Master Ash.
