Profound Choice Wins First Up for New Connections

Media Release - Wednesday September 26

Tom Hedley's gavelhouse Australia purchase Profound Choice provided the perfect first up result for his new connections at MacKay on Saturday.

Profound ChoiceThe four-year-old son of Not A Single Doubt was sold on account of Mick Price Racing on gavelhouse.com just over a month ago for $10,500. Having had only two unplaced starts at the time, he had gone straight to the paddock after his last start for Price on 1 August and came to hand quickly for his new connections.

Slow to start in the Ibis MacKay Maiden Plate $12,000, Profound Choice missed the jump and tracked the field to the 400m where he made his first move into the race. Jockey Chelsea Jokic found a gap at the 200m mark, where Profound Choice was able to dash through to win by a nose over the 1300m trip, taking home $7,500 for his effort.

Having added Profound Choice to the stable of Townsville-based trainer Michael Geaney, Hedley reported "I am extremely happy with the horse, and there looks to be a bit of upside to him with Saturday his first start going right handed."

"Our aim is give him one more start, then we will spell him through the summer and bring him back next year."

Profound Choice is out of the winning Magic Albert mare Wilde Irish Song who herself is a half-sister to former Gai Waterhouse-trained star mare Once Were Wild who won the Gr.1 AJC Australian Oaks while also finishing third in the Gr.1 Sydney Cup among a host of other black-type successes.

Entries for the next gavelhouse.com Australia auction are now open and are due to close 1 October 7pm AEST. Contact Josh or Shona for assistance listing on +61 3 9614 4882 or email info@gavelhouse.com .
