A Group Three Reward for Princess Posh

Mark Smith - Friday September 14

Sixth in the race 12 months ago, Princess Posh made amends in Friday's Group III Yarraman Park Tibbie Stakes (1400m) at Newcastle.

Ridden by Glyn Schofield, Princess Posh came from just off the pace to overpower the favourite Savatiano (Street Cry) by a length with Irithea (Snitzel) three and a half lengths back in third. (photo Steve Hart).

Trainer Kris Lees said a stakes win was a worthy reward for the daughter of Canford Cliffs (IRE).

"She's been up for a terribly long time, she had a couple of little freshen-ups in Queensland and it's great to get a stakes win for Australia Bloodstock," Lees said.

"He (Schofield) rode her a treat. He found a nice trail, got away from the fence at the right time and presented her perfectly."

With her first stakes win, Princess Posh advances her record to 7 wins, 2 seconds and 5 thirds from 21 starts with earnings of $391,020.

She was a $25,000 purchase out of the Phoenix Broodmare Farm draft at the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

A half-sister to two winners, Princess Posh is out of the winning Viscount mare The Baroness who is a half-sister to Group III Millie Fox Stakes winner A Country Girl out of the dual Listed stakes-winner Verdict Declared.

The Baroness was not covered for four seasons after foaling Princess Posh but was served by Foxwedge last spring.

Princess Posh becomes the tenth stakes-winner for Canford Cliffs (IRE) who shuttled from 2012-16.
