Sydney 2YO Trials Brings Together a Treasure Trove of Talent

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 13
If you're like me, then the annual official 2YO trials in Sydney is the source of much interest as we see which yearlings we liked from the sales have put their hands up to go early and hopefully fast.

At the Kensington track on Monday the ATC have put together 14 trials to be run over 850 metres with the official fieldswith trainers here and the Sale Mail with prices and yearling images here. The Sale Mail can be sorted by sire and vendor making it a great reference tool.

I Am Invincible is the most represented sire with 10 entries followed by Snitzel and Exceed and Excel with six entries each.

The I Am Invincible contingent includes $1,450,000 Magic Millions purchase Stark, who was bought by Jadeskye/B K Racing & Breeding/Brad Widdup Racing from the Vinery Stud draft. Trained by Brad Widdup, he is the first foal of Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Commanding Jewel, a three-quarter sister to the freakishly good Group I winner Atlantic Jewel.

Also sold for seven figures was the half-brother by I Am Invincible to Group I ATC Golden Slipper winner Mossfun, a colt called Invincible Vision that was bought by A Bott / G Waterhouse / Blue Sky Bloodstock (FBAA) for $1,050,000 from the Fairview Park draft at Inglis Easter.

These two colts aren't the only millionaire yearlings entered for these trials with Peter and Paul Snowden also set to take the wraps of Pierro colt Rome, a $1,050,000 Magic Millions purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft. Rome is the first foal of Exceed and Excel mare Dance Card, a three-quarter sister to Group III winner Kaepernick.

First season sires are well represented as follows – Deep Field (4), Brazen Beau (3), Rubick (3), Wandjina (3), Dissident, El Roca, Sidestep, Time for War and Verrazano (USA).

Interesting entry for Wandjina is the three-quarter brother to dual Group I winner Russian Revolution, a colt called Autocractic that made $335,000 at the Inglis Chariman's Sale as a weanling when bought by Newgate Farm, AberdeenB:China Horse Club Racing Pty Ltd.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, he is in the same Heat Seven, as Stark and Rome, so that might be a trial not to miss!

The trials start on Monday morning at 9.15 am.
