Ellicazoom Gives Kitchwin Hills an Instant Return

Mark Smith - Saturday September 1

Recently purchased for a record $420,000 by Kitchwin Hills at the Magic Millions Perth Winter Sale, Ellicazoom returned an instant dividend to her new owners when she came with a barnstorming finish to win Saturday's Group III Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

It was a bright finish to a forgettable day for the Lindsay Park operation after several hot-pots had disappointed.

Ridden by Regan Bayliss, Ellicazoom came down the centre of the track to win running away by two And a quarter lengths from I Am Excited with I Am a star a long-head back in third. (photo Grant Courtney)

The 5yo daughter of Testa Rossa had not started since she was unplaced in the Listed Bunbury Stakes in March.

It was the first win for the former Neville Parnham-trained mare since she captured the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes in November 2016. She was runner-up in the Angus Armanasco Stakes at Caulfield and Kewney Stakes at Flemington as well as the WA Guineas and Champion Fillies Stakes.

Her overall record stands at 3 wins, 5 seconds and 1 third from 16 starts with earnings of $426,574

"It was great to get this mare from Kitchwin Hills and get a Group III win, Dabernig, who trains in partnership with David and Ben Hayes, said.

"I said to Regan just ride her quiet she got a long spring ahead and it all worked out perfectly.

"We watched all her replays and decided to put the blinkers back on. She arrived at our stables in great order so we were lucky there was a sense of timing about her.

"The mares are well catered for in the spring, so she would be well suited by a race like the How Now."

Purchased by Neville Parnham Racing for $180,000 out of the Attunga Stud draft at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Ellicazoom is the fourth live foal of the outstanding mare Ellicorsam (Fimiston) whose 10 wins included the Group 1 SAJC Swettenham Stud Stakes.

Ellicorsam was purchased by Qatar Bloodstock $160,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. She was carrying the now 3yo So You Think filly Ellibuba who is yet to race,

Unfortunately, Ellicorsam missed to Zoustar in 2016 and has not had a return to the Stud Book since.

Vinery stalwart Testa Rossa was a notable omission from this years stallion open day.
