One to Watch – Belmont

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 22
It’s a new season and if we are on the lookout for three year-old winners with classic potential it’s hard to go past a Pierro gelding, whose full brother Action won the Group II WATC Derby earlier this year.

PierroA homebred for Bob and Sandra Peters, Regal Power was a short priced favourite at his second start at Belmont and improved on his first outing which resulted in a green sixth placing at the same venue in June.

This time around the Grant and Alana Williams trained galloper cruised home from midfield to win the 1300 metre maiden by a length.

Regal Power is the third winner from stakes-winning Redoute’s Choice mare Broadway Belle, a full sister to the dam of another Group II WATC Derby winner in Arcadia Dream.

We’ll go out on a limb here and predict Regal Power follows the family tradition and gains some classic WA Black Type this season!

Broadway Belle has been a regular visitor to Coolmore and has a yearling colt by Vancouver and will foal to American Pharaoh (USA) this spring.
