Thousand Guineas Late Nom does it on Debut

Breednet - Wednesday August 22
The betting market certainly didn't predict it but a late nomination for the Thousand Guineas might have with this impressive Written Tycoon debutant.

Alexandra Dreaming as a yearlingAlexandra Dreaming's betting fluctuations saw her blow from a low of $15 to start $41 but in the end she dominated a field which did look to be a well above average strength maiden, winning by just short of two lengths.

"We've got a good opinion of her," said trainer Henry Dwyer after the race.

"She's had a few setbacks. She had a couple of jump outs and shown good speed, but she's never been under pressure and you never know how they'll go under pressure.

"We did put in a late nom for the Thousand Guineas after her last jump out though.

"She's a big gangly thing, we haven't bustled her. We'll take a wait and see approach."

Alexandra Dreaming is by Written Tycoon out of Umatilla mare Umaquest, a Listed winner of the Chester Manifold Stakes and has also left the Group Three winner Yattarna and stakes placed Fromparis Withlove.

She was originally purchased as a weanling from the Select session of the Magic Millions National Weanling , making $100,000 to the bid of Sheamus Mills Bloodstock from the draft of Kambula Stud.

She subsequently went to the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne in the draft of Sledmere Stud, making $175,000 to the bid of Aquanita Racing and Stuart Webb.

Umaquest has a two-year-old colt by Not A Single Doubt following as well as a November born yearling colt by Headwater but was not served last season.
