Blessed
with a beautiful morning, the annual Woodside Park Stud stallion parade
showcased Victoria's most successful, versatile and exciting stallion roster to
the industry.
Eager to be back in the breeding barn, their four exceptional resident
stallions put on an impressive show for a large turnout of mare owners,
bloodstock agents, trainers and industry participants.
While enjoying the morning's delicious breakfast buffet, and hot barista
coffee, Cable Bay was first to parade, having furnished into an impressive
sire, his dapples on show.
While the horse that drops from the sky, Deep Impact's Tosen Stardom was
enthusiastic to let all potential breeders know that he is ready for business.
The "son of a gun" Rich Enuff almost stole the show with his handsome physical
presence and glistening coat, but once 'top gun" Written Tycoon came out, the
hush of the crowd confirmed that not only is he admired and respected by all in
the industry, but he is in fact "re-writing history."
With another stellar season in the barn, Written Tycoon has again been crowned
Champion Victorian Sire for the 17/18 racing season. With an enviable list of
progeny claiming 153 wins, eight individual stakes winners and 13 stakes
triumphs. While his three individual Group winners took out a total of seven
Group titles.
With prize money on the track amassing earnings of $9,968,077 million, it was a
superb season that secures not only his place at the top of the Champion
Victorian Stallion table, but as one of Australia's finest sires at stud.
Headlining his season is the brilliant Written By. Likely to be named Australian Champion 2YO
Colt after his victories in the Group 1 Blue Diamond, the Group 3 Pago Pago and
the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude for Colts and Geldings. Joined by Super Cash,
with a Group 2 double in the Schillaci Stakes and the Rubiton Stakes and
talented filly Booker with her own Group double in the Group 2 One Thousand
Guineas Prelude and the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes.
However, these winners do not come without the hard work and commitment shown
by all involved at Woodside Park Stud.
Recognising that the whole team played a part in presenting the four stallions
so professionally to the admiring crowd, Woodside Park Stud would like to
welcome two new members to the team for the upcoming breeding season. Bringing
their individual skill sets, a wealth of knowledge and a passion for
thoroughbreds, Woodside Park Stud introduces Garry Isaac and Florian Boisset.
Garry moved to Woodside in 2018 with over 25 years experience in the
thoroughbred industry. His considerable know-how makes him a great asset in his
role as Broodmare Manager and to the overall operations. He invested in his
first horse at the age of 16 and along with his wife, owned a successful horse
business. Ten years ago, he moved out of the corporate world into the industry
full time. He worked for Marquee Stud where he developed and managed a
160-horse broodmare farm, and more recently he oversaw 450 horses for Aquis
Farm as Operation Manager.
Florian (Flo) is joining Woodside in 2018 as Yearling Manager. He came to
Woodside from Baramul Stud in NSW where he managed yearlings for over three
years, ensuring they received the best care before and during their
preparations for sale. Prior to that, he worked at a number of farms in NSW
including Arrowfield and Turangga Farm. Florian moved to Australia from the
South West of France in Bordeaux and has always had a strong affection for
horses.
With another breeding season on the horizon, the passion and unwavering
commitment to the Victorian breeding industry Mark Rowsthorn demonstrates is
unparalleled.
"The philosophy of the business is to be the very best farm we can possibly be,
to be the best in Victoria across the entire range of thoroughbred activities.
We currently have four stallions standing at our stud and we are looking to
increase this number in the coming years. I believe we have the facilities, the
expertise and the weather to grow out and produce the top-quality yearlings and
the racetrack champions," Rowsthorn said.
