Son Of Frankel Breaks Maiden at the Sunshine Coast

Mark Smith - Sunday August 5

Waratah Thoroughbreds' Frankel gelding New Horizons (JPN) has had nearly as many trainers as he has had starts but he finally shed his maiden status at his first start for Chris Meagher at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

Darren Weir, John Thompson and John O'Shea have all hosted New Horizons at some stage of his 8-start career.

Ridden by Tegan Harrison, New Horizons (JPN) was caught three and four wide early and was made to work to position outside the pacesetting Sylvester.

He was brave in the final stages of the 1200 metre contest to hold the challenge of Plenty Of Time (El Cumbres) by one and a quarter lengths with Sylvester (Epaulette) a further one and a half lengths back in third.

New Horizon (JPN) is the second foal of the Canadian champion turf filly Miss Keller, a Grade winning daughter of Montjeu who was knocked down to Michael Goodbody for 625,000 guineas on behalf of Waratah Thoroughbreds' Paul Fudge at the 2011 Tattersalls December Mare Sale.

After being covered by Frankel (pictured), Miss Keller was sent to Japan for a date with Deep Impact. She had a colt foal by the Japanese legend who was imported into Australia back in February last year alongside his dam who had been covered by Deep Impact again but had slipped.

While Miss Keller's colt foal stayed in Australia, Miss Keller was back on the plane to Great Britain six months later.
