Goffs UK's Boutique Sale at Qatar Goodwood Festival with First Entries

Breednet - Friday July 20

Goffs UK, in partnership with Goodwood Racecourse, will hold a boutique sale for high-end Horses-in-Training and breeding opportunities at this year's Qatar Goodwood Festival on Wednesday 1 August.

The new venture comes off the back of the hugely successful Goffs London Sale, a highlight of the European Sale calendar, and expands the Goffs Group's offsite sales to five.

The sale will take place after racing and is ideally timed to accommodate international clients with access to newly released Hong Kong permits and for those who are looking for horses to race in the lucrative Melbourne Spring Carnival in Australia and major Middle East Festivals.

The sale is also well timed for the domestic market, being placed in the middle of the flat season, and like the Goffs London Sale, will offer high-end horses in all areas of the market such as a select group of fillies and mares and stallion nominations.

Australasian based Bloodstock Agent Guy Mulcaster commented:
"It's a great initiative as the sale is perfectly timed for Australasian buyers. There is growing demand for international horses to race in the Spring Carnival, especially in races such as the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, and the date means horses can be purchased and quarantined making it logistically viable leading in to the Melbourne Spring Carnival."

Hong Kong based Bloodstock Agent George Moore commented:
"I travel the world searching for horses that suit racing in Hong Kong and this sale will be a welcomed prospect for our owners looking to fill their permits. Qualified and sound horses will allow me to be active at the Goodwood Sale."

The sale is open to high-end Horses-in-Training and Breeding Opportunities including fillies and mares, foals and weanlings and stallion nominations. The first four sale entries are:

Belle Vale (5YO M by Cape Cross)
To be offered in foal to Bobby's Kitten with a Brazen Beau colt foal at foot, Belle Vale is a half-sister to the 3YO colt MILDENBERGER who won the L. Stonehenge Stakes and placed third in the Gr.2 Royal Lodge Stakes last season as a 2YO. Mildenberger's two starts this year have resulted in a win in the L. Feilden Stakes first up before finishing second to Roaring Lion in the Gr.2 Dante Stakes. Belle Vale is a daughter of the Dubawi mare Belle Josephine.

Cosmelli (5YO G by Mr Vegas)
Trained by Gay Kelleway, Cosmelli has won seven of his 19 career starts including the two-mile Northumberland Vase Handicap on his most recent start at Newcastle on 30 June. He is sold with an entry in York's £500,000 Sky Bet Ebor Handicap. The Goodwood Sale will offer a 50% share in Cosmelli who is to remain in training with Gay Kelleway. The long-term goal for the horse is to campaign him in Australia in 2019 with the view to remain for the duration of his career.

Learned Friend (11YO M by Seeking The Gold)
To be offered in foal to Dark Angel, Learned Friend is the dam of INNS OF COURT, a horse by Invincible Spirit who was a dual Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 placed 3YO last year. His two starts this season have resulted in two second placings at Gr.3 level. Learned Friend is a daughter of the Champion Filly and Gr.1 winner LUNE D'OR.

Max Emperor (2YO G by Holy Roman Emperor)
Completing the first batch of entries is a 2YO Breezer, Max Emperor, by the reigning Champion Hong Kong sire Holy Roman Emperor out of the Shamardal mare Daidoo. The colt will be offered by Bansha House Stables whose Breeze Up graduates include the Royal Ascot Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes winner and now sire PRINCE OF LIR. A Breeze Up video will be placed online prior to the sale.

Nominations for the Goodwood Sale are being taken now and accepted entries will be placed online at www.goffsuk.com in the build-up to the sale.
