Yulong Active at Tattersalls July Day Two

Media Release - Friday July 13

The German-trained DEGAS, victorious in a Group 3 on his most recent start and a late 'wildcard' entry to the sale, was the joint sale topper at 100,000 guineas on the second day of the Tattersalls July Sale.

This figure was matched later in the evening by the son of CAMELOT, OLYMPIC ODYSSEY. The second day of trade saw a total of 3,483,000 guineas realised for the 171 lots sold at an average of 20,368 guineas and a median of 12,000 guineas. The clearance rate for the day was a remarkable 96%

DegasThe German-trained five-year-old DEGAS topped proceedings on the second day of the Tattersalls July Sale when knocked down to agent Jamie Railton for 100,000 guineas. The son of EXCEED AND EXCEL recorded a career best effort on his most recent start when he won the Group 3 Grosser Preis der Wirtschaft at Dortmund for trainer Markus Klug and owners Gestut Rottgen. Sold with a 'Timeform' rating of 118, DEGAS was purchased by Railton on behalf of owner Eckhard Sauren and indicated plans were imminent.

"He will be going back to Germany, I don't know training plans," said Railton. "He might take up his entry this weekend in the Group 2 Meilen Trophy at Cologne."

Late in the evening, the top price of 100,000 guineas was matched by OLYMPIC ODYSSEY who was purchased by Stephen Hillen Bloodstock. The George Scott-trained three year old gelding broke his maiden impressively at Nottingham last month, placing second three days later at Ripon.

The well-related son of CAMELOT is out of Group 1 Prix de la Foret winning mare FIELD OF HOPE and carries a 'Timeform' rating of 78.

Hillen commented after the sale;

"He is for a new client, and will be going jumping. He is a gorgeous horse, and by Camelot who has such a good stint of things of late.

"He'll have an easy month now, and then go to his new base and he stays in England."

The top-priced lot during the morning session on the second day was the three-year-old gelding DE MEDICI who was knocked down to BBA Ireland's Michael Donohoe for 95,000 guineas on behalf of Yulong Invesments' Zhang Yuesheng.

The son of MAKFI was sold with a 'Timeform' rating of 95 following his victory in a competitive handicap at Sandown just five days ago for owners Al Asayl Bloodstock. He was consigned by The Castlebridge Consignment on behalf of trainer Archie Watson's Saxon Gate.

"This horse might head to Singapore or Australia," said Donohoe.

"Yulong is building up quite a big string in Singapore now.

"This horse is a good-looking type, vetted well and came recommended by Archie Watson.

"It is the beauty of buying internationally - a horse might find his or her niche in a different jurisdiction."

Qatari buyers always play a major role at the Tattersalls July Sale and none more so than leading Qatari trainer Jassim Ghazali who signed the purchase slip for VOLATILE. The four-year-old son of POET'S VOICE was consigned by The Old Malthouse Stables of trainer Jamie Osborne and was knocked down to Ghazali for 85,000 guineas.

The sale represented a successful result for owners Melbourne Ten Racing who purchased the gelding for 32,000 guineas via John Ferguson Bloodstock at last year's Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale.

Another lot to sell for 85,000 guineas was the Shadwell Estates' owned and Dermot Weld trained MANZIL who was consigned with a 'Timeform' rating of 87p following victory in a Down Royal Maiden on his most recent start. The three-year-old son of BATED BREATH was knocked down to agent Bobby O'Ryan who commented;

"He came highly recommended. He is a nice horse and is for Mick Easterby. He'd be one for the John Smith's Cup at York next year."

The Tattersalls July Sale continues at 9.30am on Friday, July 13.
