First race win for Black Caviar's daughter

Darryl Sherer - Friday August 11

Black Caviar's daughter Oscietra gave the public what it wanted by leading all the way to win the Hanlon Industries Maiden Plate (1000m) on the synthetic track at Geelong on Friday.

Breaking smartly, Regan Bayliss was allowed an uncontested lead on Oscietra who led comfortably with the favourite Consider It Done posted three wide and facing the breeze.

Bayliss allowed Oscietra ($2.20) to roll off the home turn and the filly went clear, pulling out plenty to go on and defeat Sancy's Diamond ($16) by 1 3/4-lengths with Consider It Done ($2.10 fav) a short head a way third.

Oscietra was racing for the first time since finishing third on debut at Flemington on New Year's Day and David Hayes, who trains the three-year-old in partnership with son Ben and Tom Dabernig, told Racing Victoria he was expecting her to go close.

"I think if it wasn't so windy - she had to do all the work into the wind - she might have won a little bit easier," Hayes said.

"It's incredible how much speed she has as the intention was to sit third or fourth and she led them easily.

"I think you will find this race will become a good form reference."

Hayes said he expects Oscietra to go on to better races this preparation.

"I'm pretty confident she will go through to city class and she's a black type filly in waiting I think," Hayes said.

"I've seen her work with too many stakes winners in the stable and beat them. I think she showed today she's got a bit of spirit there too.

"Her next run will be on turf and it will be in the city."
