Nine for Charm Spirit

Media Release - Monday July 9

Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit) sired his ninth European first crop 2YO winner and second in Ireland, when Chicago May provided her hot young sire with another impressive debutante winner on Sunday.

Charm SpiritChicago May proved superior to nine other rivals in the 1400m event at Naas, winning by 2 ½ lengths after quickening up impressively in the final furlong to score an imperious victory.

Best known for his many big race successes in the National Hunt sphere, trainer Henry De Bromhead commented:

"She is a filly we have always liked but I thought she would need the run as I hadn't done that much with her at home. I'm delighted with her as she's done it very well in the end".

"Ronan Whelan her jockey, said it felt like she was only hacking and was really impressed with her. She'll stay further no bother".

An £82,000 yearling purchase Chicago May becomes the ninth individual first cropwinner for her freshman sire Charm Spirit who has now sired 2YO winners in Great Britain, Ireland and France.

Charm Spirit's first southern hemisphere yearlings sold to $400,000 this year will commence racing in the 2018/19 season.
