Kiwi Bred Megablast Wins Caloundra Cup

Media Release - Saturday June 30

After going through the 2015 Ready to Run Sale at Karaka with a reserve of just $25,000, Megablast(NZ) (Shinko King) has now earned his connections more than $400,000 in stakes.

Megablast as a two year-oldThe classy grey picked up the second black-type win of his career with a dominant performance in Saturday's A$175,000 Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) on the Sunshine Coast.

Ridden by Damian Browne for Pukekohe trainer Nigel Tiley, Megablast sat in second place before moving forward to challenge for the lead at the 600-metre mark. He quickly took command, racing to victory by three lengths.

Bred and raced by Dr John and Di Bowbyes, Megablast has now had 31 starts for 10 wins, seven placings and $412,567 in prizemoney – more than 16 times his reserve when he went through the Ready to Run Sale in 888 Bloodstock Ltd's draft.

Megablast previously won the Group 2 Easter Handicap (1600m) at Pukekohe in April, and he has also placed in the Group 2 Avondale Cup (2400m), Group 2 PJ O'Shea Stakes (2200m) and Group 3 Waikato Cup (2400m).
