Sir Patrick Acknowledged as Export Champion

Media Release - Friday June 29

Sir Patrick Hogan was acknowledged for his exemplary services to the export sector having been awarded the Exporters' Champion award at the 2018 Air New Zealand Cargo ExportNZ Awards.

Sir Patrick at KarakaRecognising individual accomplishment, this award specifically recognises those who over a period of time have made a significant contribution to our export sector. Ultimately promoting New Zealand across the globe, they have gone above and beyond the call of duty to share their experience and knowledge, networks, leadership skills and have helped foster the talents of others in order to develop business offshore.

New Zealand Bloodstock Managing Director, Andrew Seabrook, accepted the award on Sir Patrick's behalf and vindicated the ExportNZ Awards judging panel's decision saying, "Sir Patrick has been a true leader in the development of the New Zealand thoroughbred export market setting the standards from which many vendors now aspire to."

"His significant Sales achievements at Karaka under the Cambridge Stud banner have seen him sell in excess of $260m in horses over the last 40-odd years with a considerable number having been exported to Australia, Europe and South-East Asia.

"A trend setter in terms of international marketing strategies and networking, he raised the standard of international promotion of New Zealand-bred stock and hospitality offered at the Sales – and the results speak for themselves."

Many in the thoroughbred industry have benefited from Sir Patrick's guidance, mentoring and coaching, including Russell Warwick of Westbury Stud who was delighted to hear of his award.

"Sir Patrick has shaped the careers of many people within the thoroughbred industry over the past five decades and I was fortunate to have personally benefitted from his passion, knowledge and dedication towards 'the horse' and his love of the industry.

"His leadership role is unparalleled in New Zealand whether it be through the promotion of Cambridge Stud, the success that his horses have enjoyed on the world stage or simply through the generosity that both he and Justine Lady Hogan have extended to people from all walks of life.

"There is no doubt he has played a significant part in making the New Zealand thoroughbred one of the most sought after on the planet."
