Darley
shuttler Teofilo (IRE) added a new stakes-winner to his tally when Aussie bred
three year-old Yakeen beat older horses at Turffontein on Sunday to win the Group
III Jubilee Handicap.
Trained by Mike de Kock for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Yakeen scored
a tenacious head win in the 1800 metre contest as favourite, taking his overall
record to four wins from six starts.
A $160,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Yarran Thoroughbreds draft for Form
Bloodstock, Yakeen was bred by Larneuk Stud and is the second winner from
Reine, an unraced half-sister by Royal Academy (USA) to Group I winner and sire
Nadeem from dual Group I winner Candide.
Yakeen is the 76th stakes-winner for Teofilo , who returns to Darley
in the Hunter Valley this spring at a fee of $44,000.
Other Aussie bred winners on the program were: Soqrat (2c Epaulette x Elzeeza),
and Nafaayes (2f Exceed and Excel x Decelerator (USA)) and Dame Eleanor (4m New
Approach (IRE) x Curtana).
