Derryn to Stand at Stud in New Zealand

Media Release - Tuesday June 5

A sprinting specialist who met and matched the best Australian short course performers is bound for New Zealand.

DerrynHinchinbrook's well-performed son Derryn has been secured for duty by Mark and Jane Corcoran's South Taranaki operation Grangewilliam Stud at Waitotora.

"I approached New Zealand Bloodstock to keep an eye out for a new stallion and I was keen on a speed horse," Mark Corcoran said.

"When this one came up I looked at his race videos and I was sold. He was probably unlucky not to win a Group One.

"He's got a great pedigree, really good blood, and a family that leaves top stallions. He's got the looks to go with it as well – he's the complete package."

The four-year-old raced at the top grade throughout his career with 19 of his 20 starts at black type level, nine of them in Group One company for leading Victorian trainers David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

Derryn (image Steve Hart) won three races with his career highlight a defeat of the top-flight winners Global Glamour and Impending in the Gr.2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) at Randwick.

He also won the Listed Darby Munro (1200m) at Rosehill and showed his precocious nature with a two-year-old victory over 1000m at Caulfield.

Derryn's record also features placings in the Gr.1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) behind Redzel, the Gr.3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m), the Gr.3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) and the Gr.3 Up And Coming Stakes (1200m).

His sire Hinchinbrook is a three-quarter brother by Fastnet Rock to Snitzel while Derryn's dam is Munhro, a winning daughter of Lonhro and an Unbridled's Song mare, who is a half-sister to the Group Three winner Colour.

It is the successful stallion family of Not A Single Doubt, Snippets and Zizou as well as the Group One winners Forensics, Rewaaya, Sense Of Occasion and Ertijaal.

"Derryn will be out here in a couple of weeks and we're selling limited lifetime breeding rights and there has been very good interest," Corcoran said.

"It's not hard to convince people, he's selling himself. He's going to get great support."

Derryn will stand at Grangewilliam for $5000 + GST in 2018 alongside Zed, Haradasun, The Bold One and Dial A Prayer. – NZ Racing Desk.
