Top bets from Ben Dorries for Saturday August 12

Ben Dorries - Saturday August 12

I'm playing a straight bat at Doomben on Saturday and confident we can make money by attacking the easier deliveries and letting the tricky ones go.

MR EPIC (Doomben Race 1 No 1)

Six-horse race to start the day at Doomben but I reckon it's just a two-horse race, between Mr Epic and Monteux. Monteux will have his supporters due to a weight swing on Mr Epic and also the fact he ran on well behind Mr Epic last start. But in the fair-dinkum department, I would humbly suggest Mr Epic is coming off a far better run after being trapped wide and then with his jockey forced to circle the field and finally go to the lead a long way out. Halfway down the Doomben straight he looked like he was $1.20 to hoist the white flag and fade to run an honourable third or something. But showed a great ticker and will to win. Starts from barrier one here and will probably be sitting third the fence and getting a much softer run. Realise this is a fairly crappy old race which won't make any highlight reels but this guy just wins and is the best bet of the day at Doomben.

TYCOON FLUTTER (Doomben Race 2 No 7)

Few of these coming from the Ingeegoodbe race last time while others coming from absolutely everywhere! Admit its hard to line up some of the converging form lines but leaning towards the Ingeegoodbe form line. In that race, Ingeegoodbee was given a peach of a ride from Ronnie Stewart while second-placed Pinolino probably had her chance. Those two are the two faves here but to my eye Tycoon Flutter was the best finisher last time they met. He doesn't win out of turn but charged home last time over 1600m after looking to hit a bit of a flat spot early in the straight. May not have won beyond 1400m, but on the last effort you'd think he would eat up the 2040m of this race.

BET: EACH WAY
ODDS $8 @ Bet365

OINK (Doomben Race 6 No 12)

This little piggy is going to go wee, wee, wee, all the way home in this race! Has been running on behind some good ones and was powerful late last run after getting too far back against Prioritise. Goes up an extra 150m here, gets a good gate and will be a new horse with only 54.5kg on his back. Damian Browne will know this guy even better now and should push up and be closer than last time, hopefully midfield at worst. No fancy odds here but any price a winner and he should be winner. Am respecting the bottom weight Ahndras but fancy she might need another run and to be over a bit more ground.

BET: WIN
ODDS $3.30 @ Ladbrokes (odds boost)
