Get Smart

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 23
With 11 winners in the past seven days for Smart Missile, the decision to stand the classy son of Fastnet Rock at Twin Hills Stud near Cootamundra this spring is looking like a good one for Ollie Tait.

The Champion First Season Sire of 2015/2016, Smart Missile has established himself as a prolific source of winners with 138 winners from his first three crops, his oldest progeny now four year-olds.

They include five stakes-winners headed by Group II winner I'll Have a Bit, a gallant and unlucky third in the Group I SAJC Goodwood Handicap last Saturday at Morphettville.

Ranked in the Top 20 sires by earnings ($5million) and winners, Smart Missile is a proven value option this spring at a fee of $13,200.

His winners keep coming with a treble on Wednesday headed by the Chris Waller trained gelding The Avenger, who won at Canterbury for Star Thoroughbreds and the Tony McEvoy trained two year-old filly Beauty, who won impressively on debut at Gawler.

A $145,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Star Thoroughbreds from the Arrowfield Stud draft, The Avenger won by a long neck at his first run back from a spell over 1250 metres.

He looks set for a good campaign and can improve on his already impressive record of four wins and three placings from 11 starts with prizemoney topping $143,000.

A half-sister to stakes-winners Order of the Sun and Get to Work, Beauty led all the way as favourite to win her debut by a length and a half and looks to have a bright future.

Missile Coda is one of a string of recent winners for Smart MissileRounding out the winning treble for Smart Missile was his stakes-winning four year-old mare Exocet, who opened her account in Queensland for the Anthony Freedman stable with a short neck win in the 1800 metre open handicap at the Gold Coast.

Smart Missile has had 75 yearlings sell this year at an average $81,173 and he's not done yet with a further 15 catalogued for the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale (June 5 – 7).

Smart Missile also has 12 entries for the Magic Millions Weanling Sale starting on Thursday including a full sister to his smart winner Missile Coda, who won at Rosehill last Saturday.

A winner of five of 12 starts with prizemoney just shy of $160,000 Missile Coda could easily measure up to Black Type company in the future making her full sister Lot 397 an appealing prospect.
