Record Weanling Entries for Great Southern Sale

The Southern Hemisphere's largest weanling offering highlights a record Inglis Great Southern Sale, for which the catalogue is now available online.

In total, 991 entries have been received for the sale at Oaklands Junction, which will now run for an extended five days (June 17-21) as a result of the larger catalogue.

Included are a record 571 weanlings and nearly 300 broodmares.

The weanling draft includes progeny by leading sires such as I Am Invincible, Written Tycoon, Sebring, Exceed And Excel, Lonhro, Medaglia d'Oro, Zoustar, Pierro, Fastnet Rock, Choisir, Tavistock, So You Think and Hinchinbrook and rookie sires including Vancouver, Pride of Dubai, Dissident, Brazen Beau, Toronado, Kermadec, Trust In A Gust, Press Statement, Nostradamus, Rubick and Night of Thunder.

Written TycoonThe Great Southern Sale is a proven hunting ground for pinhookers especially.

The 2017 sale was a huge pinhooking success, highlighted by a Zoustar x Snow Blitz filly which was purchased for $130,000 at Great Southern before being on sold for $650,000 as a yearling at Karaka, and a Starcraft x Mrs Bradbury colt which was a $30,000 Great Southern weanling buy and sold at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for $340,000.

Leading Victorian stud Woodside Park will offer a quality unreserved draft of 41 Lots at the sale including weanlings by the likes of Written Tycoon, Zoustar, Tavistock, Rich Enuff and Super One.

Inglis' Victorian Bloodstock Manager Simon Vivian was proud of the catalogue that had been collated.

"Breeders from around Victoria and from interstate have supported Great Southern with quality drafts,'' Vivian said.

"It is exciting to know that such a substantial offering or quality weanlings will be on offer and I am confident there will be many pinhooking and racetrack success stories graduating from the 2018 sale.''
