Scat
Daddy's brilliant son No Nay Never (USA) became the first European first season
sire to post a stakes-winner when his two year-old filly Servalan won the Listed
Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies' Sprint Stakes at Naas overnight.
Trained by Jessica Harrington, Servalan was second on debut at Dundalk and improved
to finish strongly from back in the field to win the six furlong contest by
more than a length over her stablemate Chicas Amigas.
"They
are both very good and will go to Ascot although I'm not sure in what races
they will run. We will see nearer the time," said Jessica Harrington.
"Servalan luckily missed the break a bit and Seamie (Heffernan) dropped her in.
When he pulled her out she was very easy and quickened up great.
"It's nice to have two good fillies. They both came on well from their first
run and will come on again."
Two other stakes races on the Naas program were won by sons of Scat Daddy in Sioux
Nation and Sergei Prokofiev again highlighting the strength of their sire, who
also sired Kentucky Derby winner Justify to win the Group I Preakness Stakes at
Pimlico in North America.
Servalan was purchased by BBA Ireland for €50,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale and is
the second winner from stakes-placed Oratorio mare Catch the Eye, who comes
from the family of Group III winner Secret History.
Servalan was the second winner for No Nay Never over the weekend with promising
colt The Irish Rover winning at Newbury for Aidan O'Brien on Saturday.
Ryan Moore was aboard the youngster who took up the running in the six-furlong
contest a furlong out and ran on well to win by two and a half lengths.
"He was lovely today," said O'Brien. "Ryan gave him a lovely, confident
ride and it would have taught him plenty. You would love everything about the
progeny of No Nay Never - there is a lot of Scat Daddy in them and they are all
speed, which is what you are looking for.
"He ran straight through the line and hopefully we will be thinking about Royal
Ascot for him now."
The Irish Rover is from Danehill Dancer mare Shelley Beach, a half-sister to
Australian stakes-winner Skiddaw Peak.
The two best turf sprinting sons of Scat Daddy, No Nay Never and Caravaggio are
set to visit Australia in the spring for Coolmore.
Now the sire of four first crop winners in the Northern Hemisphere, No Nay
Never will be on his third trip and has weanlings to be offered at the upcoming
Magic Millions National Sale this week.

Ascot two years running winning the Group II Coventry Stakes at two and then
the Group I Commonwealth Cup at three.
No Nay Never remains at a fee of $19,250, while Caravaggio is priced at
$33,000.
