Windsor
Park shuttler Charm Spirit (IRE) is wasting no time in kick starting his stud
career, posting his third Northern Hemisphere winner overnight with a debut victory
at Newbury for two year-old colt The Paddocks.
Trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Tom Marquand, The Paddocks tracked the
leaders and was tenacious to the line to win the six furlong maiden by a head
with two and a half lengths back to the third horse.
"The Paddocks is a nice colt we've
been waiting to run and we hoped he'd be an Ascot horse. This is always a very
good race and ours improve massively," Hannon said.
"He's a six-furlong horse, but if he's got the speed for five we might enter
him in the Norfolk."
A 120,000 euro purchase from the ARQANA Yearling Sale, The Paddocks is the
first winer for Miss Plimsoll, a sister to Group II winner Pomology.
The Paddocks is the third winner this week for Charm Spirit joining Diviner and
Charming Kid.
A triple Group I winning son of Invincible Spirit, Charm Spirit made a positive
impression at Australasian yearling sales this year with his first Southern
Hemisphere bred yearlings.
Charm Spirit had 30 yearlings average $112,000 at Karaka Book 1 and also had
four yearlings average $2616,250 at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the
Gold Coast.
His yearlings sold for up to $400,000 with his top seller a filly from Lady
Kipling sold by Windsor Park at Karaka and bought by Ciaron Maher / Waterford
Bloodstock.
Charm Spirit stands at a fee of $18,000.
