At
age four, this son of champion sire Redoute’s Choice can only be described as a
late bloomer, but his impressive debut win at Kembla on Thursday indicated more
wins may be in store.
Trained by Matthew Smith, Tonsor had three trials for Newcastle trainer Paul
Perry back in 2016, before reappearing in April for his current trainer.
With two recent trials under his belt including a last start win at Warwick
Farm, Tonsor was well fancied to win on debut and had comeback kid James Mcdonald
in the saddle.
He raced up on the pace and powered away to win the 1200 metre maiden by three
lengths.
A $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Paul Perry from the Arrowfield draft,
Tonsor is the second winner from Group I VRC Oaks winner Brazilian Pulse.
Brazilian Pulse has a weanling filly by Not a Single Doubt and was covered by
Maurice (Jpn) last spring.
