Timely Stakes Win for Sheiswhatsheis

Mark Smith - Saturday May 12

Catalogued for the upcoming Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Sheiswhatsheis added to her appeal when earning a maiden stakes win in Saturday's Listed Members Handicap (1600m) at Doomben.

Given an inch-perfect ride by Jeff Lloyd, the 6yo daughter of Bernardini (USA) led every step of the way to nose out Aqua Vite (Northern Meteor) Nozomi (Street Cry) three-quarter of a length back in third.

Winning trainer Tony Gollan said the booking of Jeff Lloyd was the winning move.

"He's a master Jeff Lloyd, particularly on these front-running horses, I don't think there is any better judge of pace," Golan said.

"We chased him for the ride a couple of weeks ago and we had to wait and wait for him to commit, which he did on Monday arvo and gee I'm glad he did. Once we she secured him she was always going to be a good chance today.

"I'll have a chat to the owners and see if she is going to the sale or not. There is another one of these mile races again in a couple of weeks so no doubt she will come here again because she has a great record at Doomben over a mile and hopefully Jeff sticks with her."

Bred and part-owned by Meringo Stud Farm, Sheiswhatsheis advances her record to 8 wins, 6 seconds and 6 thirds from 34 starts with earnings of $443,783.

Purchased for $30,000 out of the Meringo Stud consignment at the 2013 Classic Yearling Sale, Sheiswhatsheis is the best of three winners from as many to race out of the winning Street Cry (IRE) mare Cry Baby, a half-sister to the stakes-placed Lorenzo (Sir Laurence).

Cry Baby is a granddaughter of Mrs Minerva who is a half-sister to AJC Derby, VRC Oaks and AJC Champagne Stakes winner Rose Of Kingston as well as the VRC Oaks, STC Rosehill Guineas and STC Canterbury Guineas winner Spirit Of Kingston and the Listed winner Prince Of Kingston.

Rose of Kingston is the dam of the 1990 Melbourne Cup hero Kingston Rule and the Group III winner Rose Of Portland.

Spirit Of Kingston is the dam of Victoria Derby winner Portland Player.

Cry Baby has been sparingly used in recent years. She has a yearling filly by Dawn Approach (IRE) but was not covered in 2016 or 2017.

Sheiswhatsheis becomes the 62nd stakes-winner for the former Darley shuttler Bernardini (USA) (pictured ).
