Rider Horse Expand Kiwi Operation

Media Release - Thursday May 10

Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Industry were active at New Zealand Bloodstock's May Sale, showcasing their intent to expand their breeding operation in New Zealand.

The group, led by chairman and chief executive Lang Lin, commonly known as Mr Wolf, was the leading purchaser at the Sale, buying 20 lots including 14 broodmares to support their two New Zealand-based stallions.

"Everything has gone to plan, before we only bought the horses to ship back to China to race, but now we have expanded our business in New Zealand and we race here and we want to expand our breeding here as well," Lang said.

"At the moment we have two stallions standing in New Zealand, one is Mongolian Khan and the other is Mongolian Falcon.

"I want to contribute more to the breeding industry in New Zealand so that we can breed more quality foals in the future."

Mongolian KhanRider Horse have stood their poster-child, three-time Group One winner Mongolian Khan, at Windsor Park Stud for the last two seasons, while they have added to their stallion presence in New Zealand with Group Two winner Mongolian Falcon joining Willow Glen Stud's stallion roster this coming season.

"Mongolian Falcon, he is by Fastnet Rock out of a Galileo mare so everybody knows that is a golden cross," Lang said. "That's why this time we have bought some mares specifically focused on those by Zabeel, Savabeel or O'Reilly."

Lang has also been influential in attracting further overseas investment to Karaka from fellow Chinese buyers.

"Lot 87 was purchased by Mr Hong on my recommendation for and there will be more Chinese buyers coming to New Zealand just for the Mongolian Khan progeny because he is very well-known in China," he said.

Hong went to $55,000 to secure the Mongolian Khan weanling colt out of Baileys on Ice, an O'Reilly Group performer who has also left the stakes-placed Mother's Milk.

"Mr Hong owns horses at Macau Jockey Club and has business with the Rider Horse Group," Lang said.

"He first came to New Zealand about one and a-half years ago for the Ready to Run Sale and purchased two. This time he came over just for Mongolian Khan foals and that is why he bid on him so strongly."

Rider Horse sold the top lot at Karaka May - Mongolian BeautyThe colt will remain in New Zealand where he will eventually join the stable of Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, who enjoyed much success with his sire Mongolian Khan.

Lang said he was happy with his purchases and believes he found value in the strong broodmare market at Karaka.

"I am happy with the value and price of the mares, I got good quality and the price was fair."

Meanwhile, Rider Horse also sold the top lot of the Sale when Mongolian Beauty, a full-sister to their stallion Mongolian Falcon, was knocked down to the $180,000 bid of Sydney-based bloodstock agent Andrew Williams. – NZ Racing Desk.
