Sensational Debut Win for The Autumn Sun

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 25
Highlighted this morning in the Daily Debutants story on Breednet, blue-blooded two year-old Redoute's Choice colt The Autumn Sun made a winning debut at Randwick on ANZAC Day for the Chris Waller stable.

An eye-catching performer at the barrier trials since he first appeared in public last December, The Autumn Sun has been handled patiently and allowed to mature before finding his way to the races.

The Autumn Sun as a yearlingWell fancied in the 1200 metre maiden against a competitive field, The Autumn Sun was allowed to find his feet early by Kerrin McEvoy and given space in the run to travel deep and get into a rhythm.

He was the widest runner coming into the straight and quickly passed his rivals to forge clear and win by a length and a half in class record time clocking 1:08.61.

The runner up Danawi will also be worth following and is the first living foal of dual Group I winner Secret Admirer by Exceed and Excel.

Chris Waller has a knack for producing a nice two year-old every year for the Brisbane Winter Carnival and The Autumn Sun has stakes class written all over him.

The Autumn Sun was a $700,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Arrowfield draft for Hermitage Thoroughbreds/ Waller Racing and is the first winner for Azmiyna (IRE), an unraced half-sister by Galileo to Group I winner and sire Azamour.

Chris Waller and bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster also secured the current yearling from Azmiyna, a lovely filly by Snitzel for $1.3 million at this year's Inglis Easter.

Azmiyna has a weanling colt by Not a Single Doubt and was covered last spring by Snitzel.
