Snitzel vs Fastnet Rock for Group One honours

Breednet - Friday April 20
With tomorrow's Randwick meeting bringing the curtain down on Group One racing for the Sydney autumn we thought we'd have a look at how the sires are faring to this point in the season.

Long LeafNot surprisingly Snitzel leads the pack having sired four individual Group One winners so far this season but he has Fastnet Rock and High Chaparral nipping at the heels with three apiece.

Snitzel's winners so far have been Estijaab, Redzel, Russian Revolution and Trapeze Artist while Fastnet Rock's trio are Merchant Navy, Shoals and Unforgotten, and High Chaparral has Ace High, Hiyaam and Rekindling.

Fastnet Rock does have a shot at evening that up tomorrow though with his sole non-group one winning runner being the $7.50 chance Long Leaf in the Champagne Stakes, coming off a more than adequate fourth in the Sires Produce Stakes last start.

Snitzel has three chances to add to his tally although none quite as fancied as Long Leaf.

They are Bondi, a $15 chance in the Champagne Stakes and two in the All-Aged Stakes, Showtime ($15) and Muraaqeb ($34).

High Chaparral has a blank tomorrow but with 11 Group One races in South Australia and Queensland yet to come, including two Derbies and two Oaks, he'll get a chance.

Those 11 races are: Tattersalls Tiara, Stradbroke Handicap, J J Atkins, Queensland Derby, Queensland Oaks, Kingsford Smith Cup, Doomben Cup, Doomben 10000, South Australian Derby, Australasian Oaks, and Robert Sangster Stakes.

For the record, Snitzel also leads the stakes winning numbers for the season with 24, followed by I Am Invincible (17), Fastnet Rock (15) and Not A Single Doubt (14).
