Aussie Mare Brings Darley Stakes Success

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 19
Darley have enjoyed success through sending top class Australian bred mares to join their breeding program in the Northern Hemisphere and the practice delivered an interesting result in the UK overnight with the Group III Nell Gwynn Stakes at Newmarket won by a daughter of Lonhro stakes-winner Dysphonia.

Trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, three year-old Dubawi filly Soliloquy was a dominant length and three-quarter winner of the seven furlong contest at her first appearance this year.

The dam of Soliloquy is back in Australia and in foal to Brazen BeauShe had just two starts last season winning at her second outing at Ascot in September and had been put aside since then.

"We were confident coming into the race - her work recently has been nothing but impressive," said Charlie Appleby.

"Soliloquy stayed here over the winter and has done well from two to three. We were always going to try and make it and keep it simple and she got a soft lead."

She may head towards the Thousand Guineas, although will have to supplemented as she was not an original entry.

Soliloquy is the second foal and second winner for Dysphonia, who is now back in Australia for Darley.

She returned last year and produced a colt by Epsom Derby and Arc winner Golden Horn and was then covered by Brazen Beau.
