Rupee off to Adelaide for second-up run

Brad Waters - Tuesday August 8

Adelaide is likely to be the next stop for five-time Group I winner Lankan Rupee after his impressive return to racing at Sandown on Sunday.

Lankan Rupee made a solid return to racing with his second to in-form sprinter Ability in Sunday's Group III Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) but trainer Mick Price has changed his plans with the gelding.

Price was initially leaning towards testing the son of Redoute's Choice over 1400m in the Group II PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) on Saturday week but has decided to keep Lankan Rupee at 1200m for his second-up outing.

Price told the Herald-Sun he would give Lankan Rupee his second-up run in the Group III Spring Stakes at Morphettville, which will also be run on Saturday week.

Price said Lankan Rupee pulled up well enough from the Bletchingly and the trip to South Australia would benefit the former horse of the year.

"He pulled up really well in terms of soundness,'' Price said.

"He pulled up OK otherwise as it was his first run back from a long break and he put a lot of effort into it.

"The Spring Stakes fits in perfectly in his program and you'd have to think he's going to be a great winning chance.

"He's been hanging out at my stable for several months, so a trip away will do him the world of good."

The Group I Memsie Stakes (1400m) on September 2 is still on Lankan Rupee's agenda for a third-up run.
