A
potential Brisbane campaign beckons for impressive Star Witness colt Graff who
won on debut at Rosehill on Monday.
Starting a $5 third favourite off the back of a couple of solid Newcastle
barrier trial efforts, Graff settled back in the field and raced quite greenly
through much of the race.
Once Christian Reith managed to coax him through a gap in the straight however
he lengthened stride impressively and ultimately it was quite a facile effort, clearly
the best horse and seemingly winning with something in hand.
"He is still quite green and new, but a very talented colt," said Reith.
Winning trainer Kris Lees said after the race; "He is a horse capable of
getting to Brisbane and he has started off in the right manner."
Graff is the second foal of Dinkum Diamond, a winner of the Gr.3 SAJC The Jansz
as two-year-old, who in turn is out of Gr.3 Dermody Stakes winner Raja Lane so
it is a strong two year-old pedigree.
He was offered by Widden Stud at the 2017 Magic Million Gold Coast Yearling
Sale, making $200,000 to the bid of Alan Bell Racing.
Dinkum Diamond's yearling was sold this year for $320,000 at the Magic Millions
Gold Coast sale when offered by Widden Stud, she has a foal by Shamus Award and
was served by Your Song last season.
Star Witness has three lots set to be offered at the upcoming Inglis Easter
Yearling Sale.
