Now This Is a Pedigree Update

Mark Smith - Monday April 2

There was, typically, plenty of joy for Arrowfield in stakes races at Rosehill on Saturday but the enjoyment was not restricted to the local scene.

When Coolmore's 3 million Keeneland September Yearling Sale topper Mendelssohn (Scat Daddy) entered Kentucky Derby calculations with an eighteen and a quarter length romp in Group II UAE Derby at Meydan on Dubai World Cup night and China Horse Club's $500,000 colt Audible (Into Mischief) staked his claim for the Run For The Roses with a dominant performance in the Grade 1 Florida Derby, it all provided a timely update for a yearling filly to be offered by Arrowfield Stud at the upcoming Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

Mendelssohn is a half-brother to Audible's sire Into Mischief as well as to one of the all-time great mares of this or any other era, the multiple champion, Beholder.

Beholder, Mendelssohn and Into Mischief are all out of the Tricky Creek mare Leslie's Lady who was purchased for $8,000 at the 1997 Keeneland January Mixed Sale.

She won a minor Stakes race at Hoosier Park and in 2006, Clarkland Farm paid $100,000 for Leslie's Lady at the Keeneland November Mixed Sale.

Another of her daughters is the Yankee Victor mare Victory Party (USA) who was born a year after Into Mischief, four year's before Beholder and seven years before Mendelssohn.

Victory Party (USA) did not get the opportunity to emulate her famous siblings and retired to the broodmare barn unraced.

She was in foal to the now top stallion Pioneer Of The Nile when she caught the eye Nathan Tinkler's Patinack Farm at the 2010 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

It required just $37,000 to purchase the royally related mare. After she foaled a colt to Pioneer Of The Nile she was covered by Malibu Moon and was on a plane for Australia.

With Patinack's troubles, Victory Party was purchased by Team Valor who raced Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom (USA).

So, it was no surprise when Victory Party visited Animal Kingdom (USA) in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

She had three consecutive fillies, the last of which will feature on day 3 of the Easter Yearling Sale (pictured)

Team Valor sent Victory Party back to America in 2016. She was put in foal to Curlin and offered at the 2017 Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale where she failed to meet her $475,000 reserve.

Victory Party's Malibu Moon filly named Malibu Fever was purchased by Anthony Cummings Thoroughbreds for $155,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

She failed to race but she has been given every opportunity by owner David Bentata to extend the family's influence as she foaled a colt by Snitzel last spring and was covered by Golden Slipper winner Capitalist.
