Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Friday April 11

Barrier trials at Rosehill on Friday morning featured five heats for juveniles and winners included an unraced three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I winner Mizzy and two unraced youngsters by Golden Slipper winning sire Farnan, who has already sired eight first crop winners this season.

Heat 10 saw the first of two unraced Farnan’s winning in Johnny, and in the fastest time of the three juvenile heats over 900m.

By Farnan out of Amuri, the Peter Snowden trained gelding sat comfortably behind the speed and found the line equally as comfortably to win with something hand at his third trial, and first this preparation.

The first foal of a Zoustar half-sister to stakes winners Thurlow and Three Kings, he was a $150,000 buy for his trainer from Kia Ora Stud at Magic Million Gold Coast.

Heat 11 was the second winner by Farnan with Iniesta also having his third trial and first for this campaign, having won a trial in December and finishing second in another in January.

Settling near the rear and wide, he passed them impressively down the straight to score in the manner of a horse with plenty to offer.

By Farnan out of Nieta, a six-time winner and four-time stakes placed mare by Nicconi from a family which incudes Group I winner Sincero.

Trained by the O’Shea/Charlton team, he was a $240,000 buy for this trainer and James Bester from Widden Stud at Magic Millions Gold Coast.

The other 900m heat was won by another O’Shea/Charlton unraced youngster in blueblood Zoustar filly Burn The Sky, beating another unraced stablemate in Extreme Choice colt Pimlico.

Settling just off pace, Burn The Sky was asked to find the line and had a head advantage on the line.

A $250,000 Magic Million spurchase from Widden Stud for  John O'Shea Racing/James Bester Bloodstock, Burn the Sky is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I winner Mizzy and last Saturday’s Group III ATC PJ Bell Stakes winner She’s Got Pizzazz, being the first foal of winning Pierro mare Combat Queen.

It was the second trial for runner-up Pimlico, a $1.2million buy for Rosemont Stud and Suman Hedge Bloodstock from Newgate at Inglis Easter.

Additional heat winners were: Hereward (Saxon Warrior (Jpn) and Raskol (Russian Revolution).
