$290,000 top selling Pinatubo (IRE) colt from Of the Day.

Of the Day, who won five races at metropolitan level and earned over $240,000, is a full sister to Group Three George Moore Stakes winner Most Important - a five time stakes winner and earner of over $1 million.

The team from First Light Racing teamed up with trainer Tony Gollan and bloodstock agent John Foote to secure the sale topping youngster.

"We thought he was the colt of the sale," Andrew Dunemann, General Manager of Gollan Racing, said. "Tony has had a fair bit to do with the mare."

"It's a really good family, a good Queensland family. Linda Huddy has bred him and she's one of our great clients and we have great respect for what she does in terms of breeding them."

"This is a sale we always want to be involved in. The QTIS bonus structure is probably the best in Australia - for us it's a no-brainer for us to buy at this sale."

The vendor and breeder of the colt were both thrilled with the $290,000 result.

"It's always good to get a sale topper here at Magic Millions - in your home state," KBL's Brad Lowe said. "And to get a result like that for someone that has supported us for many years."

The colt comes off one of Queensland's leading thoroughbred farms, Peachester Lodge - the property of the Huddy family.

"Ever since he was foaled we've always liked him," a beaming Linda Huddy said. "He's always been a beautiful colt and been easy to do anything with."

"I'm really, really happy with the result and the great job that Brad and Kandice (Pritchard) have done - they always present the yearlings and any horses they have for us, always beautifully presented."

"I like the horse (Pinatubo) himself he was really fast in the Northern Hemisphere," Huddy added. "Darley always do a good job with the ones they shuttle down here."

$210,000 Spirit of Boom colt from Lonhro's Spirit

The second top seller of the day and sale was the Spirit of Boom colt from Lonhro's Spirit (Lot 293) at $210,000.

The Kenmore Lodge offering, a half brother to Fred Best Classic placegetter End Assembly, was purchased by leading Central Queensland trainer Clinton Taylor in partnership with Bacon Racing.

"We love the stallion," Taylor said. "We've had terrific success with him."

"He was one we identified. He's probably more of a three-year-old and we will give him a bit of time."

"We really like him and we thought he was good buying."

"I love the stallion," Taylor added. "There's a little trick to training them and hopefully we can keep going."

The $210,000 colt was a much admired youngster and was one of the stars of quality Kenmore Lodge draft.

"He's a nice horse," Kenmore's Kellie Bond said. "He recommended himself- he had a lot of quality."

"He's a half to a horse with plenty of ability and he's by the right stallion. He was the kind of horse that always gave the indication he could make a bit of money."

"It was a pretty good result," Bond added. "He's a good up and coming trainer."

Across the sale over $8.3 million was traded on 240 lots sold at an average price of $34,635 and clearance rate of over 73 per cent.

"It's a really important sale for the Queensland breeders," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "It's fantastic to be able to host them again."

"Overall it was a solid enough day. The clearance rate is a bit lower than we would have liked but it was a strong average and there were plenty of six figure horses."

"For the right product there were plenty of bidders here on the ground."

"It was expected going in that it would be a bit tough at the bottom end. On a whole we are very happy with the cross section of buyers."

"The local market has been solid enough and I'm really happy with buyers from interstate and internationally that complemented what the locals were participating on."

Bowditch said he wasn't surprised to the see the Pinatubo colt at the top of the leaderboard.

"He was a standout colt from the first time we saw him. He was a lovely horse by a really exciting first season sire from Darley."

"I'm thrilled for Linda - she has been a great supporter of the Magic Millions in so many different facets for many years."

"She bought Shoot Out here and she is heavily involved with our showjumping and she does  huge amount here in the ring and for Magic Millions in general."

"The result just shows that if you bring the right horse to the Gold Coast March Yearling Sale you can get well paid," Bowditch added.
