Strong Demand in Latest gavelhouse.com Sale

Media Release - Tuesday March 20

The latest gavelhouse  New Zealand auction concluded on Monday night, with a pleasing total of $266,200 worth of bloodstock traded and an 87% clearance rate.

Lot 11With 54 Lots listed in the sale, 47 were successfully sold and the top price on the night was $89,000 for a yearling Jakkalberry filly at Lot 11 .

The turnover was the third highest since the site's launch in April 2016, sitting behind the launch auction's total of $350,100 and last June's $587,800 result which featured a dispersal sale where the top Lot fetched $211,000.

The most recent sale saw bidders active from Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand with gavelhouse.com General Manager Haylie Martin thrilled with the results "As we approach two years in operation as an online auction site, the cyclical nature of the business is clear with it quieter over the summer months."

"We're looking forward to facilitating more great results for buyers and vendors alike while continuing last night's upward trend in the coming months."

Last night's sale topper was sold by Taranaki-based breeder Chris Thompson. The half–sister to triple Group One winner Gingernuts is the third horse he has sold for top-dollar via gavelhouse.com with Gingernuts full brother Griffin selling in June 2016 for $90,000 and a Tavistock yearling colt selling for $100,000.

Thompson purchased the filly's dam Double Elle in foal to Iffraaj for $3,000 at the Karaka May Sale, with the subsequent foal being Gingernuts and has since had plenty of success thanks to the daughter of Generous.

The second highest priced Lot of the night was $23,000 which secured Windsor Park Stud's unreserved three in one package including the Volkaraad mare Ohakune offered in foal to Mongolian Khan with a Rip Van Winkle colt at foot while $21,000 was paid for Lot 7 , the weanling filly by Showcasing out of Sarajay.
