Husson Gelding wins Goldmarket for Prime

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 18
Aquis based Husson (Arg) added a new stakes-winner to his tally when tough six year-old Raido scored a career best win in the $100,000 Listed Goldmarket Handicap at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Raido - Magic MillionsThe Tony Gollan trained gelding was a winner at the Gold Coast in December, but was not thought to have the form to trouble the top chances in this 1200 metre Black Type assignment.

He proved the punters wrong when powering home from back in the field to score a head win, his seventh from 33 starts with prizemoney just shy of $300,000.

"I was thinking of sacking him after he got beaten at Ipswich back in December but then we brought him to the Gold Coast and he won," Gollan said.

'"At his only other run on this track he was second and should have won. I have won Goldmarket's with Spirit of Boom and Gundy Son and to say I am shocked Raido has joined them is an understatement."

"He is still a Class 6 horse and he had a terrible barrier so you really wouldn't have given him much chance. But we decided to go back and let him run home and things worked out."

Raido was a $40,000 Magic Millions Perth purchase from the Korilya Stud draft for Joe O'Neill's Prime Thoroughbreds.

HussonPrime owners have enjoyed previous success with the progeny of Husson, having raced classy stakes-winner Husson Eagle, the winner of nearly $1million in prizemoney.

Raido is the best of three winners from Misguiding, a winning Royal Academy (USA) mare from the family of Group I winner Regal Cheer.

Husson moved from Vinery Stud to Aquis last spring and stood his first season in Queensland at a fee of $13,200. He was well received and covered some 91 mares.
