Last Lot in Catalogue Tops Book Two in Perth

Media Release - Friday February 21

The last lot of the catalogue wrapped up a successful 2025 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale when it sold for the day's highest price.

Maschino-Burning Magic colt

The colt by Maschino, consigned by Ruby Racing and Breeding as Lot 350, was sold to local trainer Summer Dickson for $185,000.

"I was on the phone to a new client to the stable and he asked me multiple times - do you really like it - and I told him it was the only horse I wanted in the sale."

"We came the sales on Wednesday and looked at the horse multiple times - I really liked the horse and I have a good feeling about him."

"I'm really thankful to have someone like that in the stable. I'm so excited to bring him back home."

"I honestly thought the horse would go for about $50,000. When it was into the hundreds I thought I was out but I got the phone call at the right time."

"He's a really strong, robust colt. He's got a really big airway in him and he walks really strong from behind."

"He had everything that I look for in a horse," the Group winning horsewoman added.

The result was celebrated by the team from Ruby Racing and Breeding.

"We are absolutely delighted," a beaming Dan O'Bree from Ruby said. "Jason Cheetham is a great client."

"To sell a Maschino colt for $185,000 is amazing - I'm almost lost for words."

Across the day over $4.8 million was traded for 121 lots sold at an average price of $40,078 and clearance rate of 78 per cent.

"We have built upon what was achieved yesterday with the marketplace," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

"To have a clearance rate that is nearing 80 per cent, an average of $40,000 and a gross of near on $5 million is very acceptable for Book Two - and the clearance rate for Day One has now increased to 89 per cent!"

"There's great thirst for horses here in the west. Obviously the local market again today was out in force. The quality of horse on offer continues to improve."

"I would like to congratulate the vendors for creating a genuine market and giving the buyers a great opportunity to buy horses at a value price that will as a whole race for the very lucrative Westspeed bonuses."

"I'd like to thank the team - David and Rebecca here in Perth as well as the rest of the interstate team. It's been a been a big build up from Pinjarra to here today."

"Obviously the investment here in the Swan Valley is something that has improved the product that we are selling in the state. The Swan Valley continues to provide a viable venue that created a very genuine market in the west."

The bloodstock sales focus switches immediately to the Apple Isle with a quality line up of yearlings to go under the hammer on Monday at the Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

"This is a sale that has a proud history of producing quality horses across Tasmania, the mainland and abroad," Bowditch added. "There will be plenty of value to be found before we head onto the other two sales (on the Gold Coast and in Adelaide)."
