A superstar in Hong
Kong where he won the 2013 Hong Kong Derby and Longines Hong Kong Cup on
International Day, Akeed Mofeed (GB) has been given every opportunity to
succeed in his new career at stud by Goldin Farms.
In 2013, legendary South Australian stud Lindsay Park was purchased by the Hong
Kong based Goldin Group and rebranded as Goldin Farms.
Installed as the foundation sire was Akeed Mofeed, a top class son of Darley's
champion sire Dubawi, the sire of 145 stakes-winners worldwide including
Australian Group I winners such as Srikandi, Secret Admirer, Tiger Tees and
Shamal Wind.
Fast forward to 2018 and Goldin Farm's decision to support Akeed Mofeed with
significant quality books of mares is paying dividends with two smart winners
in the past week.
Goldin Farm have bred and retained a number of his offspring to race and have
several in work with the leading training partnership of John, Wayne and
Michael Hawkes.
Hawkes Racing unleashed two talented colts this week with Heart Conquered winning
at Morphettville last Saturday followed by Sunset Watch, who scored a powerful
win at Ballarat on Monday.
Having his second start after finishing fourth on debut to subsequent
stakes-winner Long Leaf in Adelaide back in October, Heart Conquered began well
and settled in the first half of the field before being asked for an effort by
jockey Todd Pannell.
Heart Conquered quickly accounted for the leaders before staving off the
challenge of Frazier to win the 1000 metre scamper by three-quarters of a
length with Akeed Mofeed filly La Vita in third place.
Sunset Watch was quick to follow his stablemate into the winner's circle.
Fifth on debut last month behind Ennis Hill and Encryption in the Group III MRC
Chairmans Stakes, Sunset Watch appreciated a drop in grade to maiden class to
run out an easy two length winner as favourite.
"They are both nice horses with a good attitude and that is so important," said
Wayne Hawkes.
"They've pleased us in everything they've done and we couldn't be happier with
them.
"They're probably not entitled to be up and going as early as they are given
Akeed Mofeed's race record, but they've done it themselves, they just want to
be racehorses"
Heart Conquered and Sunset Watch appeal as likely candidates to be winning more
races and their dams Heart to Fear and Saramenha have been back to visit Akeed
Mofeed in subsequent seasons.
Akeed Mofeed has now had two winners and a placegetter from just five starters
which is a promising beginning for a horse that competed successfully at two
and three, but really found his best form at four over 2000 metres.
Race record aside, Akeed Mofeed has a top quality European pedigree befitting a
stallion and it's a pedigree only getting better as his full brother Jordan
Sport won the Group III Meydan Mahab Al Shimaal Stakes in Dubai last weekend.
Goldin Farms are committed to racing the first three crops of foals by Akeed
Mofeed in anticipation that maturity will bring success as it did for their
sire, but are also broadening their bloodstock interests to include mainstream sires.
They sent mares out last year to stallions such as Fastnet Rock, Zoustar, Zebedee, Written Tycoon,
Pierro, Choisir, Dissident, Snitzel and Shalah (IRE) with the aim of selling
yearlings at the major sales in 2020.
