Karaka Book 1 - Pinhook Winners

The NZB National Yearling Sale Book 1 was held earlier this week and as always there are a good selection of Australian bred yearlings offered that are pinhooked from various sales here and we’re taking a look at the most profitable and you can also check out the full list of all that were offered.

Wootton Bassett (GB) filly from Paper Plane as a yearling.

Heading the list was the highest priced filly by Wootton Bassett (GB) sold at this sale with Hallmark Stud well rewarded for their filly from Paper Plane that sold for $340,000 to Ger Beemsterboer.

The third foal of Fastnet Rock mare Paper Plane, a sister to Group II winner Lumosty, she was the most successful pinhook of the sale providing a great return for the Baker family, who purchased the filly from Coolmore at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $65,000.

Paper Plane had a filly by St Mark’s Basilica last year and is back in foal to him again.

Second on the list was the Proisir colt from La Donna E Mobile (IRE) that fetched $360,000 for Riversley Park when snapped up by Mulcaster Bloodstock Ltd / Chris Waller Racing.

He is the fifth foal of La Donna E Mobile, a blueblood unraced imported Pivotal mare that is a grand-daughter of Group I Yorkshire Oaks winner Hellenic from the family of Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente and Group I winners Islington, Greek Dance and Mountain High. He was sourced from Curraghmore at the NZB National Weanling Sale for $140,000 where he was the second highest priced weanling at the sale.

So You Think sired the next most successful pinhook with Cambria Park selling a colt from Zabeel mare Buccellati to Symons Laxon Racing for $240,000.

He is the third foal of a winning sister to stakes-winner Turner Bayou from the family of Group I winner Devil wind and was sourced from the Kingstar Farm draft at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale for just $25,000.

Next on the list a Yulong bred filly from the second crop of Lucky Vega (IRE) from Outlook that was bought by Rohan J Hughes Thoroughbred Services / Grahame Begg Racing for $240,000 from Hallmark Stud.

She was a savvy purchase from the Yulong draft at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale for $30,000. She is the first foal of winning Fastnet rock mare Outlook, a full sister to Group II winner Mongolian Falcon.
