Aquis
Farm's high class shuttler Artie Schiller (USA) featured in the US on the
weekend with a new Grade I winner after Bowies Hero took out the $400,000 Grade
I Frank E Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita.
Trained by Philip D'Amato; Bowies Hero was already a Grade II stakes-winner,
but produced a career best performance to win the one mile on turf by half a
length.
"Tomorrow is my birthday [42], but we'll celebrate it today," said Phil
D'Amato.
"This horse competes every step of the way. He's steadily progressing and today
he showed he can compete amongst the elite in the turf mile division. Hat's off
to Corey [Nakatani] for helping this horse's development.
Mark Martinez, of co-owner Agave Racing, added, "We'll just enjoy this one
before making any plans, but I will say this...I used to say he was an honest
horse but now, he's just a damn good horse."
The four year-old entire has won six of 13 starts banking over $640,000 in
prizemoney.
Bowies Hero is the fifth Group I winner for Artie Schiller and is from Sky Mesa
mare Remembered, a half-sister to Group II winner and sire Mint Lane (USA).
Best known as the sire of Champion 3YO Colt Flying Artie, Artie Schiller has four entries for the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale
