Krupt Filly Breaks Maiden in Style

Mark Smith - Friday March 9

Chalk up another winner for the red-hot combination of trainer Clare Cunningham and jockey Jason Collett after the 2-year-old Krupt filly Onthetake overcame a troubled run to break her maiden in the $35,000 Beaumont Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle on Friday.

Settled back among the tailenders, Onthetake had trouble obtaining clear running in the straight but once in clear air she ran down Godolphin's Exceed And Excel colt Osorno in the final few bounds with the well supported Mark Newnham-trained filly Greysful Glamour two lengths back in third.

Making her third trip to the races, Onthetake finished an honourable eighth behind Fiesta in the Listed Widden Stakes at Rosehill Gardens before disappointing when favourite in a maiden at Wyong at her most recent start.

However, Cunningham took responsibility for that run admitting they erred in putting her on speed.

"This was pretty much the first two-year-old I had in my stable," Cunningham told Sky Racing.

"We always thought a lot of her and I was pretty disappointed in myself last start. We thought she would be good enough to put herself on the pace but it's just a learning curve I'm facing, some horses can do it and others can't and I went home very disappointed.

"It was just awesome to see her true colours.

"She's very fiery, she dumped Jason on his second ride on her. We call her Isla after Isla Fisher and she's a ginger too."

The homebred is the third winner for the Secret Savings mare Shezout a daughter of the stakes-placed Owner's Delight (Family Ties).

Shezout was covered by Zebedee (GB) last spring having missed the previous season.

Todman Stakes winner Krupt (pictured ) has two lots on offer at the Adelaide Magic Millions.
