Magic Millions Book 1 Pinhook Winners - See the Full List

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 16

The most expensive weanling colt by Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside ended up the most profitable pinhook at last week’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale Book 1.

Consigned by Newgate Farm, the colt from Ocean Deep (NZ) was offered at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale last year by Phoenix Broodmare Farm where he was snapped up by Newgate’s great judge Jim Carey for $230,000.

He was then re-offered at the Gold Coast again fetching $675,000 when bought by China Horse Club/Newgate Bloodstock & Partners and is the second foal of his dam Ocean Deep, a half-sister by Ocean Park to Group II winner Fabric and stakes-winner Sewreel.

This colt obviously made a good impression from day one as Ocean Deep has a weanling filly by Stay Inside to follow and was covered by him again last spring, but unfortunately missed.

Lime Country Thoroughbreds had a huge result with a Nicconi filly from No Crying that sold for $425,000. Now the highest priced yearling by Nicconi ever sold, she was a cracking type from an elite female family and was duly snapped by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock.

The star filly was bred by Jonathan Munz’s GSA Bloodstock and was offered as a weanling last year at MM National by Bhima Thoroughbreds where she was picked up by Lime Country Thoroughbreds for $120,000.

She is the first foal of metro winning Exceed and Excel mare No Crying, who was a $600,000 Inglis Easter purchase back in 2020 and is a half-sister to Group III winner No More Tears, who has found fame and fortune as the dam of Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Ozzmosis.

No Crying is a grand-daughter of influential matriarch Procure, the dam of Group II winner Hips Don’t Lie, dam of stakes-winners Acrobat, Lake Geneva and Group III winner Ennis Hill, the dam of Group II winner Learning to Fly.

It’s a serious commercial family that bristles with fillies being bred up to the best sires and you can see why Sheamus Mills was keen to grab a little piece of it!

Riverstone Lodge enjoyed a big win from their Too Darn Hot (GB) filly from Jest Excel that made $420,000 when bought by Kurrinda Bloodstock/Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing.

She was bought for $140,000 as a weanling at MM National from the draft of Amarina Farm by Sledmere Stud/Cangon Stud Farm providing a great result for her previous owner as well. The Seductress was bought for just $4,000 by Matthew Jackson at the Inglis Digital February Sale in 2023 when in foal to Tassort with this filly the result of the mating.
