Nomothaj joins Shadwell's Slipper arsenal

Breednet - Saturday March 3
Snitzel filly Nomothaj joined Shadwell Stud's multi-pronged Golden Slipper arsenal with a return to the winners list in the Listed 3AW Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Nomothaj wins the 3AW Stakes. Photo Grant Courtney.Nomothaj had scored a debut win in the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes LR at Flemington back in October before starting a $10 chance in the Magic Millions Classic but suffered severe interference in a rough house race and finished with the tail enders.

Back to her home track on Saturday though, she was heavily backed and fought bravely to win by a neck over Irukandji (Dundeel x Cerberus Gal) and Virtual Insanity (Sebring x Lamiraqui).

Shadwell has a strong hand in the Golden Slipper this year with Nomothaj joining Blue Diamond runner-up Enbihaar and the stakes winning Qafila as potential runners, with a decision to be made in the coming weeks on likely runners.

"She'll head to Sydney. Whether she runs in the Percy Sykes or she might have another crack at Sunlightin the Slipper. You never know," said co-trainer David Hayes

The winner was a $420,000 purchase for Shadwell from the Newgate Farm draft at the Magic Million Gold Coast Yearling Sale last year.

She is the second foal of Real Stolle, a stakes winner of the VRC Maribyrnong Plate Gr3 as a two-year-old.

Her third foal is set to be offered by Newgate at the upcoming Inglis Australian Easter Sale as Lot 318, and she has a Snitzel filly foal and was served last season by Capitalist.
