Darby Racing have a happy knack for finding serious value at Inglis Classic and they certainly got that in spades when paying $30,000 for a filly by first season sire Lucky Vega (IRE) who came out and won the $500,000 Inglis Nursery at Randwick on Saturday adding to her debut win in the $500,000 Inglis Banner last month.
Trained by Bjorn Baker and ridden by Jason Collett, Within the Law was happy to let the early leaders rush along in front before finishing off with a late charge between runners to snatch a long neck win over another Darby Racing runner in Cool Aza Beel colt Cobra Club, prepared by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
“It has been a good week and a great job by Bjorn and Darby (Racing) and the team to find these races," said Luke Hilton, Racing Manager for Bjorn Baker.
"We sent her to Melbourne the first time and had to travel and she got away with it down there and did a really good job. She has done nothing but improve since she has come home.
"That was a really tough win today because she is not very big, but she showed a lot of heart."
The $2 million Inglis Millennium (1100m) on February 8 is a likely next target and possible races such as the Group I ATC Golden Slipper if she continues to thrive and progress with Hilton optimistic she could measure up to the better juveniles.
"You'd think she would have to be off that. We'll have to have a good think about it," he said.
"The world is her oyster at the moment. She is still improving all the time and she is such an honest filly. She handles everything and has been so professional.
"She is not one who stands out at home, but she has taken everything we have thrown at her."
Bred and consigned by Yulong to the 2024 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Within The Law was a $30,000 purchase for Darby Racing and has already won
She is the first foal of placed Dundeel mare Contract Signed, a granddaughter of multiple Group II winner So Gorgeous from the family of Denise's Joy.
Purchased in 2021 on Inglis Digital for $30,000 by Chatsworth Farm aka Yulong, Contract Signed has a yearling colt by Tagaloa and was covered again by Tagaloa this year after slipping to Written Tycoon.
Within the Law has provided a dream start to the stud career of Yulong based Lucky Vega, a Group I winning son of Lope de Vega that stood at a modest fee of $16,500 this year.
