Danzig double-up expanding

Darryl Sherer - Sunday February 25

Dick Karreman-homebred Devise became the 76th Group or Grade I winner inbred to Danzig when landing Saturday's Haunui Farm Classic (1600m) at Otaki.

Devise finished runner-up in the New Zealand Oaks last season and has now won four of her 14 starts.

She is the 35th stakes winner for Darci Brahma (Danehill) who stands at Karreman's The Oaks Stud in New Zealand. The five-time Group I-winner also has Group III Mr Tiz Trophy winner No More Tears and Listed winners Darscape Princess and Alibi bred with duplications of Danzig.

Devise is 3 x 4 to Danzig through her broodmare sire Volksraad, a son of champion sprinter Green Desert.

Given the proliferation of Danzig's influence around the world it should come as no surprise to see horses carrying duplications of the son of Northern Dancer.Devise

Indeed, on Saturday in Australia there were five stakes winners carrying duplications of Danzig including the Group III Zeditave Stakes winner Overshare (I Am Invincible) and the Group III Angus Armanaso Stakes winner Summer Sham (Not A Single Doubt).

Arion statistics credit 660 stakes winners inbred to Danzig to date and that number will continue to increase.

In Australia Group I winning examples at stud include All Too Hard (Casino Prince), Dissident (Sebring) and Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible) while Vespa (Elusive City) is standing at Wellfield Lodge in New Zealand.

All Too Hard has already sired the Flemington Listed winner All Too Huiying with another strain of Danzig.
