From Last to First for Trapeze Artist Winner

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 30

Thought good enough to contest a couple Group I Oaks races last season, Group III placed Trapeze Artist mare Concello produced a tenacious last to first effort to win at Canterbury on Friday night for Star Thoroughbreds.

Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Concello was third up from a spell and made light work of the heavy ground to power home and win in a thriller.

A $210,000 Magic Millions purchase for Star Thoroughbreds/Randwick Bloodstock Agency from the Ashleigh Thoroughbreds draft, Concello has three wins and three placings from 12 starts with prizemoney topping $140,000.

Concello was a $210,000 Magic Millions purchase.

She is the third winner and final foal from well bred Encosta de Lago mare Senta Helga (deceased in 2020), a winning sister to champion Hong Kong Stayer Liberator and to the dam of Group II winner Etana.

The family has been on the move in the past 12 months producing Group I SAJC South Australian Derby winner Coco Sun and also Kiwi stakes-winner Glamour Tycoon, so Concello will be a nice broodmare prospect for the future.

Concello is one of 31 winners this season for Trapeze Artist, who is second on the third crop sires table for winners behind only Justify (USA).

Trapeze Artist has a big selection of 35 yearlings to be offered at Magic Millions in January.
