It's
the Australian way to go to the yearling sales looking for that star two
year-old, so with the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes to be run this weekend, what
did they look like as yearlings?.
Of the 20 acceptors, 12 were offered at sales in Australia and New Zealand with
a variety of price tags.
On the cheap end of the scale, two were pinhooks, Ollivander, a $20,000
weanling from the MM National Weanling Sale subsequently sold for $70,000 at
the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, and Aristocratic Miss, a $25,000 weanling
from the MM National Weanling Sale subsequently sold for $65,000 at the Inglis
Premier Sale in Melbourne.
The cheapest yearling is the well fancied Kinky Boom, a $40,000 buy for McEvoy Mitchell
Racing from the Phoenix Broodmare Farm draft at the Inglis Premier Sale.
At the pointy end there is Long Leaf, the third highest priced yearling at the
NZB Premier Yearling Sale at $NZ750,000 and Prairie Fire, the second highest priced
lot at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale at $625,000.
Below are as they were as babies:
