Endless Drama Claims Apollo Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday February 17

No Winx, no worries, Chris Waller made it three consecutive Apollo Stakes wins when the import Endless Drama (IRE) edged the gallant Global Glamour in the Group II feature at Randwick on Saturday.

Global Glamour led for all but the final few metres as Tye Angland edged Endless Drama ever closer to gain the decision by a long-head with a further long-head back to the winner's fast-finishing stablemate Comin' Through in third. (photo Steve Hart )

Sporting the silks of Qatar Bloodstock, Endless Drama opened his Australian account at his sixth start in his adopted homeland. He made his Australian debut in this race twelve months ago where he was unfortunate to meet Winx and Hartnell.

"It was a good victory," Waller said. "A great result for the winner.

"It's quite a special win this one for me because he's had his share of issues so for him to win a race like that, it's close to a Group I.

"I think there's more to come from him too.

"I'm not sure where he's rating sits but he's a keep fresh horse, maybe a Doncaster hope."

Waller was also taken by the effort of the third placegetter – which to his surprise couldn't keep up when Global Glamour was ensuring a genuine 1400m test.

"I really liked the run of Comin' Through, he attacked the line with real purpose," he said.

"He was lost for that early speed but I couldn't have been any more impressed with his finish."

Runner-up in the Group 1 Irish Two Thousand Guineas and third in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes, Endless Drama is a son of former shuttler Lope de Vega out of the stakes-winning Green Desert mare Desert Drama.
