Family Favourites – Breednet Helps You Find Them at Magic Millions

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 14

The release of the 2025 Magic Millions catalogue on Tuesday has kept the IT team at Breednet busy integrating the data into our system and one of the most popular innovations around that is Family Search, which allows the user to search for any named horses to find all yearlings to be offered from that female family.

It’s super interesting and easy to use so let’s test it out on some of our spring favourites.

Everest winner Bella Nipotina - image Steve Hart

Everest winner Bella Nipotina is now the second highest earning stakes-winner in Australia behind only Winx and she comes from a solid Black Type family, although her dam Bella Orfana passed away earlier in the spring and her last foal, a yearling filly by Trapeze Artist is not entered for the Gold Coast.

Her family does appear the Gold Coast though with two entries, both offered by Longwood Thoroughbred Farm in Victoria.

Lot 424 is the full brother to G3 VRC Maribyrnong Plate winner Brereton by Zoustar from G3 winner Fuddle Dee Duddle, a half-sister to the dam of Bella Nipotina and also G2 winner Hallowell Belle.

Lot 684 is an Ole Kirk colt from Mooinooi, a placed Lonhro half-sister to G1 Caulfield Guineas winner In Top Swing and also Bella Inez, the grand-dam of Bella Nipotina.

El Castello won the G1 Spring Champion - image Steve Hart

G1 Spring Champion stakes winner El Castello marched through the Sydney spring carnival unbeaten before finishing a gallant fifth in the G1 Victoria Derby and his family appears once at the Gold Coast.

Lot 17 from Yarraman Park is a filly by Home Affairs from The Natural, a metro winning Fastnet Rock mare that is a full sister to the dam of El Castello.

Broadsiding won the G1 Golden Rose - image Steve Hart

G1 Golden Rose winner Broadsiding was able to build on his impressive juvenile season that earned him Champion 2YO honours and his family appears once at the Gold Coast.

Lot 790 from Emirates Park is a filly by first season sire Victor Ludorum (GB) from G3 placed Redoute’s Choice mare Pleiades, who is a full sister to G3 placed Glissade, who is the grand-dam of Broadsiding.

Private Life won the G1 MRC Caulfield Guineas - image Grant Courtney

Private Life might have been a surprise winner of the G1 Caulfield Guineas, but his subsequent outstanding fifth in the G1 Champions Sprint would indicate autumn may well offer a lot more from this talented colt.

Lot 938 from Sledmere Stud is a Zousain colt from Silk Trail, a placed half-sister by Real Impact (Jpn) to Private Life.

Lady Shenandoah won the G1 ATC Flight Stakes - image Steve Hart

Lady Shenandoah closed out her spring with a dazzling win in the G1 ATC Flight Stakes and there are three entries from her extended family at the Gold Coast and all from different vendors although only one is from her immediate family.

Lot 131 from Milburn Creek is a Stay Inside filly from Ain’t She Smart, a grand-daughter of SW Ain’t Seen Nothin’, who is also the grand-dam of Lady Shenandoah.

One to Watch – New Year’s Day
There was an overload of racing right around the country on New Year’s Day and rightly so given our national interest in horse racing as a sport to be enjoyed over the holiday break and there was a winner that did catch my eye, but until now have not had a chance to put my thoughts into a story.
