Australian
thoroughbreds scored a winning double at Vaal in South Africa on Tuesday with
wins for Sirtain (Not a Single Doubt) and The Rocketman (Foxwedge).
Trained by Mike de Kock, four year-old gelding Sirtain broke the ice in style
when galloping clear to win the 1000 metre maiden by four lengths at his third
start.
Passed in as a yearling at the Magic Millions National Sale, Sirtain is the fourth
winner from Falqueen, a half-sister by Falbrav (IRE) to stakes-winner Obvious
Choice.
Scoring his second win from four starts was Foxwedge gelding The Rocketman, who
won by a neck over 200 metres for the Mike and Adam Azzie stable.
A $180,000 Magic Millions purchase for Adriaan Van Vuuren from the Coolmore
draft, The Rocketman is the first winner for Karaka Million winner Sister
Havana, a daughter of General Nediym.
A half-sister to the dam of current Group II winner Amelie's Star, Sister
Havana comes from a family packed with Black Type including Golden Slipper
winner Overreach, Blue diamond Stakes winner Reward for Effort and Magic
Millions 2YO Classic winner Catnipped.
Coolmore sold the current yearling from Sister Havana, a colt by Fastnet Rock, at Magic Millions last month for $700,000.
